An Awkward Couple Photoshoot

There are couple photoshoots… and then there are awkward couple photoshoots. This session in my Thornlands studio was definitely the latter. 😂

When this couple arrived, I knew we were onto something. Add some deliberately ridiculous posing, a seriously questionable amount of denim and a neon 80s-inspired backdrop, and we had everything we needed for a gloriously awkward photoshoot.

Awkward doesn't mean bad

That's the thing I love most about these sessions.

Awkward doesn't have to mean uncomfortable.

In fact, quite the opposite. These shoots are designed to take away the pressure of trying to look perfect. There are no expectations of knowing how to pose and no worrying about whether you're "photogenic". I'll give you the ridiculous prompts and poses. You just have to be willing to commit to the bit. And once you stop worrying about looking silly, something brilliant happens — you start having fun.

That's when the genuine laughs happen, the personalities come out and we get photographs that actually feel like you.

An awkward couple photoshoot is a chance to celebrate the fun side of your relationship and create portraits that are completely different from the usual couple photos.

And let's face it — years from now, you're probably going to appreciate the photograph of the two of you sitting on the floor in double denim looking completely ridiculous far more than another perfectly posed photograph where you're staring lovingly into each other's eyes.
